The ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9004:2000 form a consistent pair of QMS Standards. They are based on eight principles of quality management:
- Customer Focus: Organizations depend on their customers, and therefore need to identify and understand their present and future needs.
- Leadership: Needed for unit of purpose to create an environment in which, the entire organization is fully involved in achieving objectives.
- Involvement of People: The full involvement of people at all levels enables their abilities to be used for the organization's benefit
- Process Approach: To achieve results, efficiently, organizational resources and activities need to be managed as processes
- System Approach to Management: A system of interrelated processes contributes to efficiency and effectiveness of an organization.
- Continual Improvement: Is a permanent organizational priority
- Factual Approach to Decision Making: Effective decision making is based on the logical analysis of data and information.
- Mutually Beneficial Customer-Supplier Relationship: Will enhance the abilities of both organizations to create value.
